New page

ForTheTrees was a hackathon project for the 2020 EarthX Hackathon created by Chew, Sonic, and some other friends. It was designed to help firefighters identify fires with machine learning training. The hackathon ran from April 24th to 26th, 2020. The GitHub repositories were all archived on May 10th, 2020, and the organization was on October 15th, 2023.

Components
The project had 3 main components: the API, the machine learning algorithm to detect fires, and an Android app to submit pictures of fires. The android app was for people taking pictures of the fires to submit to the API, and thus to any fire fighters, with the location of the picture and the person's phone number for any additional information. A machine learning algorithm would check if the picture was a genuine fire and discard it if it wasn't.

Submission
The submission ended up being lackluster, due to being rushed near the end. The project didn't win and received no comments.
