Lorelai (? – February 21, 2025) was a female, Scottish Fold, tabby-furred cat. Her birthday and origin are unknown, but she is estimated to be 6 or 7 years old in 2023. She was named after the Gilmore girl of the same name, because Rory was also a Gilmore girl.
Behavior
Lorelai was quite similar to Rory in that she is quite docile. She was fine with being picked up and placed at-will, even more so than Rory. She would always find someone to snuggle with, and would always purr when she received attention. She would usually take a few minutes to settle down, but she would remain there for a while.
Unlike Rory, she was very vocal. She was not afraid to meow or mwrr whenever something happens, or she simply wanted attention. Despite that, she was likely deaf, or at least hard of hearing, since she didn't seem to react to voices or other noises like Rory does. A vet determined this was likely due to an ear infection the vet says she had her whole life.
Often she would not pee in a litter box, to the dismay of Chew's parents. She would often only eat a few bites of her food before walking off.
History
On October 10th, 2022, a cat appeared on Chew's front porch. This cat has never been seen before, but she was extremely malnourished and had severe matting on her fur. She only weighed about 5 lbs, 8.5 oz (2.4 kg). She was taken in and cared for by Chew, where she was fed and given water.
On October 11th, 2022, on a visit to the vet, it was discovered she had a major ear infection, clogging her ears. As a result, she was given a steroid shot to help with the ears. She was also given a rabies vaccine.
On October 20th, 2022, Lorelai was de-matted at a pet groomer. Her nails were also clipped. She looked quite small due to no fur.
On May 10th, 2023, it was discovered that Lorelai had a UTI and needed to be treated. Medicine was picked up and began to be prescribed on the following May 15th.
Later life and death
On February 20, 2025, Lorelai likely suffered a stroke and, as a result, was unable to properly walk and navigate. She was taken to the vet the following day for analysis, and the vet stated that she might've gone blind as well. She was unable to walk around properly, and would simply hide in a corner with her head tilted down. The vet determined the likely effects to be a neurological issue and was likely caused by kidney failure. The exact cause of her issues were deemed too expensive to determine, and Chew and her family came to a conclusion that there was no need to know the true cause, since she would always be in pain regardless.
As a result, because her pain and suffering was so bad, Lorelai was put down on February 21, 2025. Since Chew was traveling, she was not able to be with her in her final moments. Chew stated "it would have been selfish to make her suffer one more day for her to go be with her. It was the best decision for her, even if it meant I didn't see her one last time. Now, I know she is finally pain free, even if I'm not."
